MENTAL HEALTH DURING QUARANTINE



The COVID-19 pandemic can take a toll on your mental health. Here are my five tips to take care of yourself emotionally, mentally, and physically during this time. 1. Eat Clean It’s not news that what you put into your body affects how you feel. Find colourful, whole nutritious foods to consume and find a balance of treating yourself every now and then.


If you're stumped on what healthy foods to eat, here is a plant-based grocery list to help you get started. 2. Sleep Well It is important to get plenty of rest so your body can reset and recharge. Aim for 7-9 hours every night and get into a consistent routine. Waking up at the same time every day can help set your internal clock! 3. Exercise We have all this pent up energy and anxiety from feeling a stir crazy. Releasing this energy and stress through movement can provide balance. If you can in the countries you live in, go outside to enjoy the sunshine. If not, try fitness videos of HIIT workouts, dance, or yoga. Get a sweat going! 4. Connect I am not talking about social media interactions. Pick up the phone to call your mom or dad, and/or video call your friends! Sometimes you need to get out of the conversations in your head and talk out your day with someone else. Share what you ate, share something new you learned, and ask for support/help when you need it. ​ 5. Learn Something New In a time where things seem like they’re standing still from uncertainty, taking up new interests and hobbies can provide a sense of moving forward. Try learning about cooking, cultures, sports, history, science, and finance. Whatever may peak your interest! I hope you find new and wonderful ways to spend time in this new environment.
